BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 4

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Around 27,000 tons of wheat have been delivered to the Georgian port of Poti as part of the Food and Development Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Trend reports citing the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia

According to the ministry, the program began three years ago with an agreement between the US and Georgia.

A five-year program with a budget of over $14 million is being implemented by Land O'Lakes, one of America's leading agribusiness and food companies, in partnership with the Government of Georgia, the University of Michigan, and the Georgian Farmers Association (GFA). The aim of the program is to support the development of agriculture in Georgia and promote the well-being of the population.

“On the one hand, Georgia received high-quality wheat, and on the other hand, the funds from the export of wheat will be fully directed to the development of Georgian livestock. This is an example of successful cooperation between the Georgian government and international organizations. Wheat will be imported from the US next year, which will be supplied to Georgian plants. I would like to emphasize once again that the quality of imported wheat is high,” said Giorgi Khanishvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

According to Ketevan Kublashvili, Director General of Agricom Company, which is the main wheat importer in Georgia, the import of American wheat into Georgia is a successful example of market diversification.
