Iran discloses volume of exported agricultural products

Agricultural products worth $2.8 billion were exported from March 21 through October 22 this Iranian year (beginning on March 21, 2019), Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Planning and Economic Affairs Abdol-Mahdi Bakhshandeh said.

“The agricultural products weighing about 3.6 million tons were exported during the reporting period,” Bakhshandeh added, Trend reports referring to the ministry.

The deputy minister added that these products were exported to Iraq, Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Russia, India, Turkey, Vietnam, Turkmenistan and Germany.

Bakhshandeh said that 11.4 percent accounted for the share of the agricultural sector in the export of Iran's non-oil goods. (the export value of Iran's non-oil sector reached $24 billion).

"Among the main exported products by weight were about 871,000 tons of melons and gourds ($271 million), tomatoes - about 400,000 tons ($239 million), onions and garlic - 263,000 tons ($131 million), potatoes - 201,000 tons ($95 million) and apples - 114,000 tons ($69 million),” the deputy minister said.

Bakhshandeh said that 31,000 tons of medicinal plants worth $23 million were exported.

"During the reporting period, 13.6 million tons of agricultural products worth $7.4 billion were imported," the deputy minister said.

“Some 29.8 percent accounted for the import of agricultural products worth $25.2 billion by Iran,” Bakhshandeh said.
