Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan grows

From January through November 2019, the cost of products sold in Azerbaijan’s retail network amounted to 34.4 billion manat ($20.3 billion), exceeding the indicator of the same period of last year by 3.5 percent, Trend reports on Dec. 13 referring to Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.

The turnover of products, drinks and tobacco products amounted to 17.4 billion manat ($10.2 billion), non-food items - 17 billion manat ($10 billion), the cost of sold products, respectively, was 3.1 and 3.9 percent more than in the period from January through November 2018.

During the reporting period, the commodity market was characterized by the following indicators:

In the reporting period, 45.9 percent of the funds spent by buyers (of consumer goods) accounted for food products, 4.7 percent for drinks and tobacco products, 18.4 percent for textile products, clothes and footwear, 6.1 percent for furniture and electrical goods, 5.6 percent for the purchase of motor fuel, 1.3 percent for pharmaceutical and medical products, 0.8 percent for computers, telecommunications equipment and printing products. Some 17.2 percent of the total value accounted for other non-food items.

From January through November 2019, 21.1 percent of consumer goods were sold by trading companies. Individual entrepreneurs accounted for 50.5 percent, markets and fairs - 28.3 percent of the specific share.

The retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 29.8 percent for enterprises, 2 percent for individual entrepreneurs and 8 percent for markets and fairs from January through November 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.

The average monthly turnover of retail trade per capita in the reporting period amounted to 316 manat ($186) or 15.6 manat ($9.2) more in nominal terms than in the corresponding period of 2018.

The average monthly volume of the sold food products per person for the reporting period amounted to 159.9 manat ($94.2), non-food items - 156.1 manat ($92).
