Nearly 200 billion rials (about $4.7 million) has been invested in fish breeding on the coast of the Caspian Sea by private sector in the Nowshahr and Chalus counties of Iran’s Mazandaran province, said Mostafa Rezvani, director of the fisheries department of the Nowshahr and Chalus counties, Trend reports via IRNA.

Rezvani noted that these investments are aimed at installing 12 cages for breeding of 600 tons of trout per year.

Fish breeding cages will be commissioned in the 11th Iranian month (January 21-February 19), the director said.

Rezvani added that there are 11 cages operating in Nowshahr and Chalus counties, and 249 tons of trout are grown per year.

“In total, 850 tons of trout will be grown in this area every year,” the director said.

According to the Iranian Fisheries Organization, it is possible to grow 370,000 tons of fish in these cages in the sea per year.

Mazandaran province accounts for two-thirds of the Iranian coast of the Caspian Sea. There are 3,330 fish breeding facilities in Mazandaran province.
