Uzbekistan, Japanese JICA agree on new projects for $3.5B

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Kitaoka Shinichi at Akasaka residence in Tokyo, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude for the long-standing cooperation of JICA aimed at supporting reforms and promoting priority programs in Uzbekistan.

Currently, the portfolio of joint projects is over $4 billion. A new long-term Cooperation Program worth more than $3.5 billion was agreed upon, including projects in the field of energy, modernization of industry and agriculture, infrastructure, environment, healthcare and other sectors.

Particular attention is paid to supporting small and medium-sized business projects, as well as expanding educational exchanges.

An agreement was reached on the development of a “road map” in order to ensure timely and high-quality implementation of each cooperation project between Uzbekistan and JICA.

JICA is a Japanese international cooperation agency that is a government agency dedicated to fostering economic and social growth in developing countries and promoting international cooperation.
