Uzbekistan’s Almalyk MMC plans to use $3.3B worth of investments in 2020

In the next 2.5-3 years, Uzbekistan’s Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (MMC) JSC will be almost fully updated, Trend reports via the company's statement.

It is planned to modernize the plant’s production technologies and attract leading experts to the production process.

The plant, exporting over 20 types of products to 16 countries, produced products worth more than $1.8 billion this year and expected revenue of $241.7 million.

In the coming years, it is planned to expand the cost of the plant’s raw material base, to master investments of $3.3 billion, aimed at increasing production capacities.

In 2024, a new copper processing plant will be commissioned for the processing of 60 million tons of ore. This enterprise, which according to preliminary estimates will become the largest in CIS, will create the basis for increasing the plant's production volumes.

Over the next years, the construction of the Vanyukov furnace, the reconstruction of the oxygen station, the anode and converter sections, as well as creation of a copper electrolysis workshop and two sulfuric acid workshops are planned.

By 2023, it is planned to increase the volume of metal mining from 40 to 100 million tons, the production of cathode copper - from 106,000 to 250,000 tons, metallic zinc - from 68,000 to 120,000 tons, refined gold - from 14.6 to 30 tons, refined silver - from 98.6 to 215 tons.

Almalyk MMC produced over 16 tons of gold and 154 tons of silver, 148,000 tons of copper, 90,000 tons of zinc, 2 million tons of cement this year.

Over the 11 months of this year, production of cathode copper increased by 30,000 tons compared to the same period last year, while the growth rate was 127 percent. The output of metallic zinc increased by 125.1 percent, sulfuric acid - by 110.5 percent, gold - by 107.6 percent, silver - by 158.9 percent. During this period, cement production doubled and products worth $900,000 were exported.

Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex is considered one of the 30 leading enterprises for the extraction and processing of copper and molybdenum, polymetals, and gold-bearing ores. At present, over 36,000 employees work at the enterprise and in its structural divisions in Tashkent, Namangan, Jizzakh and Surkhandarya regions.
