Iran's steel exports will exceed 11 million tons in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 21, 2020), Iran's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Jafar Sargheini told reporters, Trend reports via Tasnim News Agency.
The deputy minister noted that Iran exported 8.5 million tons of steel last year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019).
In the current year, Iran's steel exports are expected to increase by 30 percent, Jafar Sargheini added.
Currently, Iran has the potential to produce 35 million tons of steel per annum, the deputy minister said.
Sargheini added that the construction of the plant with the capacity of producing 10 million tons of steel per year is completed by 50 percent.
The deputy minister noted that Iran eyes to bring the annual steel production to 55 million tons by 2025.
In previous years Iran used to export up to 25 million tons of iron ore as raw material, Sargheini said, adding that presently, these materials are directed at domestic production.
The deputy minister said that Iran's iron ore exports will not exceed five million tons in the current Iranian year, and the rest will be turned into steel before being exported.
