A great number of railcars will be commissioned in Iran by the end of this year (March 21, 2020), Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Saeid Rasouli said at the commissioning ceremony of 243 railcars, Trend reports referring to the website of the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

Rasouli noted that the railcars to be commissioned are fully produced by Iranian railcar manufacturing companies.

The deputy minister added that on Dec. 29, 180 billion rials (about $4.2 million) were paid to operating companies for the subsequent payment to railcar manufacturing companies.

Rasouli said that 456 railcars and locomotives have been commissioned so far this Iranian year, and this indicates a 95 percent increase over the same period last year.

To date, 456 different cargo, passenger, trailer railcars and locomotives have been manufactured domestically or repaired this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019). Some 213 of these railcars were put into operation (March 21-August 22).

The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways has signed a contract with local Iranian companies for the production and repair of railcars and locomotives in support of domestic production. The cost of this contract is 3.4 trillion rials (about $80.9 million).

The event was attended by Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami and Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Saeid Rasouli.
