Trend:

Iran's exported carpets worth $45 million in current Iranian year (began March 21, 2019) and this is a disaster for country's trade, said a board member of Iran Carpet Manufactures and Exporters Association.

"The US sanctions have indirectly effected trading most goods, but the importance of carpet was so significant, that this commodity was included in the sanction list," said Razi Hajaghamiri, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Although the volume of the carpet export has significantly dropped, 30 percent of Iranian carpet were exported to the US," Hajaghamiri added.

"If the carpet export is halted, and we follow isolation policy, the unemployment rate will increase, especially in villages," the board member noted adding that nothing was done to win over competitors, and there is no support to carpet weavers.

"India and China have been present in the market, Afghanistan, Turkey and Pakistan entered the market recently," he said.
