OECD praises Georgia's business strategy implementation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 12

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Director of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Global Relations Andreas Schaal praised the implementation of the business strategy in Georgia at the meeting with Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Natia Turnava, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

The parties discussed priority areas of cooperation between the OECD and Georgia, as well as organizational issues of the OECD Eurasia Week, which will be held on March 17-19, 2020, in Tbilisi.

At the meeting, it was noted that the Georgian side, with the support of the European Union and in cooperation with the OECD and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), developed a strategy for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises for 2016-2020. In addition, within the framework of this cooperation, it is planned to develop a strategy for 2021-2025.

The parties also talked about the OECD monitoring over the implementation of the development strategy of small and medium-sized businesses in Georgia. Andreas Schaal positively assessed the implementation of this strategy and called Georgia a model country among the countries of the Eastern Partnership.

According to Turnava, Georgia is the first country in the region of Eastern Europe and the Caucasus to host the OECD Eurasia Week. This is a great recognition of Georgia as a country that successfully implements economic reforms, she said.

As the Minister of Economy noted, it is important that within the framework of the OECD Eurasia Week the research “Index of Small and Medium Business Policies in the Eastern Partnership Countries 2020” will be presented, according to which Georgia again has rather good forecasts.

Within the Week, a session will also be held at which OECD will present the first findings on the Review of Georgia's Investment Policy.
