Number of bovine animals decreases in Georgia

The number of bovine animals amounted to 864,100 heads in Georgia in the 4th quarter of 2019, which is 1.7 percent less compared to the same period of 2018, Trend reports citing Georgian National Statistical Service (Geostat).

As reported, in the 4th quarter of 2019, the total number of dairy cows and buffaloes amounted to 425,900 heads which are 7 percent less compared to the same period of previous year.

In the reporting period, the total number of sheep and goats decreased by 14.8 percent and reached 740,800 heads. The number of pigs equaled 141,700 heads, which is 13.2 percent less than in the same period of the previous year.

The number of poultry reached 9.1 million heads which is 11.9 percent more compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the preliminary data, in the 4th quarter of 2019, milk production decreased by 2.7 percent compared to the same period of 2018 and reached 91.7 million liters. The annual milk production in 2019 decreased by 1.5 percent compared to the results of 2018 and amounted to546.9 million liters.

Meat production was 9.5 percent less in the 4th quarter of 2019 than in the same period of 2018 amounting to 20,900 tons. In 2019, the annual production of meat decreased by 6.9 percent compared to 2018 to 67,600 tons.

In 4Q2019, egg production amounted to 148.7 million pieces which is 3.8 percent less than in the same period of the previous year. The annual egg production in 2019 decreased by 4.6 percent compared to 2018 and amounted to 605.5 million pieces.
