Azerbaijan increases agricultural production

The value of agricultural production in Azerbaijan amounted to about 335 million manat ($197 million) in January 2020, which is 3.6 percent more compared to January 2019, Trend reports referring to the country’s State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, crop production increased by 12.5 percent or by 15 million manat ($8.8 million), and livestock - by 3.2 percent or by 320.3 million manat ($188.4 million).

During January 2020, 41,900 tons of meat, 154,800 tons of milk and 160.3 million eggs were produced in the country. Meat production increased by 2.9 percent, milk - by 1.5 percent, and eggs - by 11.2 percent.

As of February 1, 2020, winter crops on an area of 1 million hectares were sown, of which 641,000 hectares (63.4 percent) were wheat, 369,300 hectares were barley and 300 hectares (0.1 percent) - rye.

In 2019, slightly above one million tons of potatoes were grown in the country, an increase of 11.7 percent compared to 2018. Over 1.7 billion tons of other vegetables were grown, which is 12.7-percent increase, and 3.54 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were grown, which is 11.4 percent more compared to 2018.

In 2019, 447,600 tons of gourds were grown in the country, which is 11.4 percent more compared to the preceding year. Fruits and berries were grown in the amount of 1.1 million tons, showing an increase of 8.8 percent. So, 201,800 tons of grapes were also grown, an increase of 20.9 percent. The growing volume of green tea leaves increased by 7 percent and amounted to 929.4 tons, and the volume of sunflower increased by 43.3 percent, amounting to 34,800 tons.
