Volume, value of Iranian exports revealed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 25

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

During eleven months of this Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through Feb. 19, 2020), Iran exported products worth $38.5 billion, said Mehdi Mirashrafi, director general of the Iranian Customs Administration and Iranian deputy minister of economic affairs and finance, Trend reports referring to the customs administration.

Mirashrafi noted that the weight of exported products was 125.2 million tons.

Exports decreased by 4.4 percent in terms of value compared to the same period last year and increased by 17.6 percent in terms of weight, the director general added.

The customs official said that 32.4 million tons of products worth $39.9 billion were imported in the same period.

Imports increased by 2.3 percent in terms of value compared to the same period last year and by 10.8 percent in terms of weight, Mirashrafi noted.

“The value of Iran’s exports are less than the value of the country’s imports by $1.4 billion,” said the director general. “However, if Iran’s electrical exports and technical engineering services rendered to neighboring countries are considered, there is a positive balance in Iran’s foreign trade.”

Iran exported most of its products to China, Iraq, Turkey, the UAE and Afghanistan, and imported most of the products from China, the UAE, Turkey, India and Germany, Mirashrafi added.

Touching upon the value and weight of the goods imported in Iran, the customs official said that by Feb. 22, 2020, 23.2 million tons of 25 types of essential products worth $14.4 billion were imported in Iran.

Product imports increased by 21 percent in terms of value and by 25 percent in terms of weight compared to the same period last year, Mirashrafi noted.
