Uzbek Energy Ministry, WB announce tender for construction of photovoltaic stations

The Uzbek Energy Ministry jointly with the World Bank (WB) announced a tender for construction of two photovoltaic power plants with capacity of 200 MW each in Samarkand and Jizzak regions, Trend reports with the reference to Energy Ministry of Uzbekistan.

In May 2018, Uzbekistan signed an agreement on consulting services with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to attract private investors for financing, design, construction and operation of photovoltaic power plants worth up to $1 billion.

The pilot project of the agreement is the construction of solar station with capacity of 100 MW in Navoi region. In November 2019, a tender for its construction was won by the UAE's Masdar Compan.

Following the new tender, one or two winners or a consortium will be selected for the construction of the two plants under public-private partnership (PPP) terms for a period of 25 years.

At the first stage of the competition, pre-qualification of the participants is announced until March 21. In the second stage, the terms of which will be announced later, the selected participants will have to represent their technical and financial proposals.

In early February, the Uzbek Ministry of Energy announced a tender for construction of a photovoltaic plant with capacity up to 200 MW in Surkhandarya region on PPP terms. This project is being implemented under a program with the Asian Development Bank signed in August 2019. Its cost is about $800 million.
