Official: Domestic production - solution for Iran's mine industry

TEHRAN, Iran, Feb.27

Trend:

Iran's mine sector needs to address challenges in upper stream via domestic production, said the head of Iran Mine House.

Mohammad Bahraman has discussed the major problems in Iran's mine sector in an interview with Trend.

"Transportation issues, basic material shortage, lack of deep exploration and lack of cooperation between universities and mine industry are just some of them," Bahraman said adding that there is a need to create legal framework for connecting mine sector and environmental, cultural and tourist organizations.

"With the obsolete technology in mine sector and lack of reforms, more resources are lost, production is decreasing and the longevity of mines is reduced," he said.

"The effect of the sanctions on country's import and export is another issue. The production companies in upper stream should complete the chain production; currently, Iran's major mineral materials and steel are exported to neighbor countries, and due to the sanctions, Iran exports its products via intermediary countries," the official noted.
