Uzbekistan produced construction materials worth 16.8 trillion soum ($1.7 billion) in 2019, which shows 17.4-percent growth compared to 2018, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
As reported, 11 million tons of cement, 18.8 million square meters of construction glass, 43.1 million square meters of drywall and 16.5 million square meters of ceramic tiles and other materials were produced.
Construction materials worth $140 million were exported, and the export plan has been fulfilled by 47 percent. Compared to 2019, the volume of exports increased by 73.9 percent. The geography of exports has expanded due to deliveries to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Russia, Turkey and China.
Within the framework of the localization program, construction materials worth 418 billion soum ($43 million) were produced domestically, and imports were reduced by $47 million dollars. Last year direct investments amounting to $1.3 billion were attracted to the sector, including foreign investments worth $570 million.
"In 2019, 866 projects worth $583 million dollars were implemented. As a result, 8,850 new jobs were created. In 2019, the price index for construction materials was 9.5 percent compared to 2018. Uzstandart agency jointly with the Ministry of Construction adopted 340 international standards for production of construction materials. Forty enterprises within the association received the certificate of quality management system," the report said.
In 2020, it is planned to produce construction materials for 22 trillion soum ($2.3 billion).
Within the Investment Program for 2020, Ohangaron Sement JSC will launch a new line for production of 2.4 million tons of cement, Quartz JSC will launch a line for production of 22.2 million square meters of glass, and Samarkand Afrosiyob Cement LLC will commission a line for production of 560,000 tons of high grade cement.
