About 112,000 tons of kiwis worth more than $82 million were exported by Iran during 10 months of the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to January 20, 2020), said Head of the Tropical and Semi-tropical Fruits Office of Iran's Agriculture Jihad Ministry Zahra Jalili Moghaddam, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Jalili, the price of a kilogram of kiwi was 70 cents. Kiwi is considered an economically viable fruit at present.

Jalili added that according to the latest statistics, more than 360,000 tons of kiwi were harvested from 12,400 hectares in Iran.

The official said that the major part of kiwi production accounted for Iran's Mazandaran, Golestan and Gilan provinces.

Jalili said that currently, China, Italy, New Zealand, Iran and Chile are the main producers of kiwi in the world.

"If the kiwis are packed in accordance with the standards and transported in a timely manner, Iran can increase its position in the export of kiwis on world markets," he said.
