Kazakhstan to launch pipe production to decrease import dependence

Construction of the plant for production of the steel welding pipes will be launched at the industrial zone in Alatau district of Kazakhstan’s Almaty city, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

The launch of the construction project’s implementation is planned for 2Q2020. Total area of the construction site is 18.3 ha. The commissioning of the plant is expected to allow covering 70 percent of Kazakhstan’s demand in pipes.

Asia Steel Pipe Corporation venture which is Kazakh-China joint venture was created for the project’s implementation. Total cost of the investments is over 33 billion tenge ($75.4 million).

The plant is expected to annually manufacture up to 100,000 tons of pipes. In the future, the plant’s capacity will be expanded to 150,000 tons of pipes a year.

At first, the plant will be manufacturing spiral welded pipes. In the future, there are plans to launch manufacturing of longitudinal seam welded pipes of large diameter.

The manufactured pipes will be used for transportation of oil, gas, water and petroleum products, as well as in mining, construction, chemical and energy industries. The new plant will allow Kazakhstan to supply pipes to local and foreign market.
