Iran's auto market faces drop in sale due to coronavirus spread

TEHRAN, Iran, April 14

Trend:

The auto sale in Iranian market has dropped during the сoronavirus spread, a member of Iran Automobile Exhibition and Dealers Association Alireza Pour Hosseini told Trend.

"The highest drop of auto price in the market was before the Nowruz holiday from February 20 to March 5, while from March 15 the prices have not changed," he said.

"In regard to foreign vehicles, the price declined sharply, some models had around 400 million rials (about $9,500) price cut. Meanwhile, the domestic autos did not have significant fall of prices," Hosseini added.

"The auto sale is not good, since people do not work due to coronavirus. In the meantime, auto making factories are working with one third of the personnel in shifts and the production volume has declined," the member of the association said.

"The auto trade in these days is very weak, as the auto sale offices are closed due to coronavirus and in general, people are not interested in purchasing new or even second-hand cars," he said.

He went on to say that the price of Pride in new Iranian year (began March 20, 2020) has reached 640 million rials (about $15,200), while the price of Tiba is 750 million rials (about $17,850), Quick is 880 million rials (about $20,900), the price of Peugeot 206 class 2 is currently 1,130 billion rials (about $26,900) and Peugeot 206 class 5 is 1,280 billion rials (about $30,400).

The price of Cerato is 4,380 billion rials (about$140,280) while Sandero Stepway is traded at 2,600 billion rials (about$ 61,900), Hosseini added.
