Subsistence minimum for an average household in March in Georgia has made up 206.1 lari ($65.53), which is the highest figure in the history, Trend reports with reference to National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat)

As reported, the rate is increased by 7.1 lari ($2.26) comparing to February, while the increase is 24.9 lari ($7.92) comparing to the same period of 2019.

In March 2020, subsistence minimum per capita for single-member household reached 206.1 lari ($65.53), for two-member household – 292.1 lari ($92.88), for three-member household – 328.6 lari ($104.48), for four-member household – 365.1 lari ($116.09), for five-member household – 410.7 lari ($130.59), for six and more member household – 485.6 lari ($154.40).

Meanwhile, the Geostat calculates the subsistence minimum on the basis of the minimum food basket, which was determined by the order of the Minister of Health of Georgia of May 8, 2003.

The food basket contains the necessary set of products to maintain the normal life of an able-bodied man. The minimum food basket consists of 40 types of products, including bread, cereals, meat, dairy products, vegetables and pastries.

The subsistence minimum is only an indicator of the cost of food. It does not include utility bills, transportation expenses and other obligatory expenses of the population.
