Potato production declines in Georgia

Potato production in Georgia decreased by 12.2 percent in 2019 compared to 2018, Trend reports with reference to National Statistics Service of Georgia.

As reported, in 2015, Georgia produced 186,500 tons of potatoes, in 2016 - 249,000 tons, in 2017 - 180,100 tons, in 2018 - 237,500 tons, and in 2019 - 208,600 tons.

The average yield of potatoes in 2019 compared to 2018 decreased by 7.2 percent.

The average potato yields in 2015 amounted to 8.3 tons/ha, in 2016 - 12.3 tons/ha, in 2017 - 9 tons/ha, in 2018 - 12.5 tons/ha, and in 2019 - 11.6 tons/ha.

Meanwhile, in 2019, the production of other vegetables increased by 14 percent compared to 2018, and the average yield of other vegetables increased by 14.8 percent.

The harvest of other vegetables in 2015 amounted to 152,300 tons, in 2016 - 141,700 tons, in 2017 - 125,900 tons, in 2018 - 142,200 tons, and in 2019 - 162,100 tons.

The average yield of other vegetables in 2015 amounted to 6.9 tons/ha, in 2016 - 8.2 tons/ha, in 2017 - 7.3 tons/ha, in 2018 - 8.8 tons/ha, and in 2019 - 10.1 tons/ha.

Compared to 2018, the average yield of tomatoes increased to 13.4 tons/ha, cabbage - to 33.1 tons/ha, onions - to 6.8 tons/ha. Over the same period, the yield of cucumbers decreased to 10.4 tons/ha, and garlic - to 2.4 tons/ha.
