The embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington organized negotiations via videoconference between Director of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) Douglas Austin and Chairman of the Association Uzbekbaliksanoat Omon Musayev, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

During the videoconference, the sides discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation.

AFS, founded in 1870, is the oldest and largest organization in the world in the fishing industry. It currently has more than 8,000 members in 60 countries. The society has 48 units in four regions of the United States: North Central, North East, South and West. The organization also has two international offices, in Canada and Mexico.

During the negotiations, the American side was presented with information on a large-scale program of development of the fishing industry in Uzbekistan, the activities of Uzbekbaliksanoat Association, as well as of fishery enterprises and farms including Aidar-Arnasai aqua system. It was noted more than 200,000 tons of fish were produced in the country in 2019.

The sides exchanged views on the use of modern technologies of fish cultivation, production of feed base, processing and packaging of fish products, development of scientific and technical base, and training of highly qualified specialists.

During the talks, Musayev appealed to the American side with a proposal to consider the possibility of establishing partnership in the aforementioned directions.

In turn, Austin expressed willingness to help Uzbekbashiksanoat to find and identify potential partners among AFS members interested in cooperation with the Uzbek side and implementation of joint projects.

Following the negotiations, an agreement was reached on signing an agreement on cooperation, which will help consolidate partnership relations in fisheries industry between Uzbekistan and the US.
