Turkmenistan, UN discuss digitalization in customs service

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23

Trend:

Turkmenistan and the UN have discussed the introduction of a single-window system for international trade in Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan's State News Agency.

This is the joint project of Turkmenistan’s State customs service, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The discussions were held in the videoconference format between representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and UNCTAD.

This project will help implement the second stage of the country's digital economy development concept from 2020 through 2023. The creation and establishment of an information system with using advanced technologies, together with specialized structures of the UN and upon the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is one of the important projects, the report said.

Last year, the state customs service of Turkmenistan and UNCTAD signed an agreement on the implementation of the ASYCUDA global information system. Within the system, the single-window network will be applied at all customs points of the country.

The use of the digital economy in the customs service of Turkmenistan will help simplify customs procedures as well as contribute to foreign economic activity and the growth of exports of products from Turkmenistan.

In addition, the parties also discussed Turkmenistan's accession to Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD and exchanged views on expanding multilateral partnership.
