Turkmenistan’s Uly Ynam private agricultural company has mastered the cultivation of forage crops using hydroponics in Dashouguz region’s Koneurgench district, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan information portal.

According to Merdan Atdayev, the head of the company, it is necessary to give adult cattle 2 kilograms of barley every day, which makes about 730 kilograms in a year. Due to the hydroponic method, 6-7 kilograms of feed can be produced from 1 kilogram of barley in 6 days.

Usually 1 hectare of land is required to maintain 1 cattle all year round and the figure can be reduced to 0,5-1 square meter by using hydroponics, said Atdayev.

“Hydroponics is considered as an environmentally friendly type of production. In the near future, we plan to build a greenhouse on 1 hectare of land to expand and sell the production,” added the head of the company.

The livestock sector of Uly Ynam company, was established in 2016. This sector is located on about 2 hectares of land and contains about 370 heads of cattle.

Hydroponics is an artificial way of growing plants. This method is the most effective for saving water and getting a rich crop in hot, dry conditions. In Israel, 80 percent of vegetables and fruits are grown using hydroponics.
