Iran reveals volume of cargo transportation via Astara railway terminal

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28

As many as 325,700 tons of cargo worth $12.7 million were loaded and unloaded via Astara railway terminal of Gilan province in northern Iran in the first month of the current Iranian year from March 20 through April 19, 2020, Director General of Astara Customs Office Rasoul Omidi said, Trend reports citing the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

According to Omidi, these cargoes were transported by 617 wagons.

Omidi added that imported exported and transited cargoes mainly belong to the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The official said that during the month, 17,400 tons of products worth $7.15 million were exported in 295 wagons. The products mainly including cement and ceramics were mostly exported to Ukraine, the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan.

"During this period, 105,700 tons of products worth $4.88 million were imported. The imported products including mainly medium-density fiberboard (MDF), grain, wood and other goods were imported in 311 wagons from Azerbaijan and Russia," he said.

Omidi added that during the month, 202,000 tons of products worth $25,000 were transited through the Astara railway terminal. Products from Russia and Azerbaijan were transited in 11 wagons to Iraq and the Persian Gulf countries.

Iran's Astara railway terminal is not connected to the Iranian railway network and products from this terminal are transported by trucks.
