Iran announces indicators for agricultural exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28

Iran exported about 7.1 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $5.82 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), Director General of Export Development Department of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad Shahrokh Shajari said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Shajari, the main products exported in terms of weight were watermelons (749,000 tons), tomatoes (573,000 tons), potatoes (480,000 tons), onions (395,000 tons).

In terms of value, the main exported items were pistachios ($724 million), apples ($362 million), tomatoes ($259 million), pistachio's legumes ($241 million) and watermelons ($76 million).

The official said that 1.95 million tons of garden-related products worth $2.72 billion, 4.41 million tons of crops worth $2.09 billion, were exported.

"Last year, 6.94 million tons of food and agricultural products worth $6.39 billion were imported," he said.

Shajari said that the main products imported in terms of weight were corn feed (8.91 million tons), barley (4 million tons), compressed soybean (2.19 million tons), soybean seeds (2.08 million tons), unprocessed sugar (1.82 million tons).

According to the official, the main products imported in terms of value were corn feed ($2.17 billion), rice ($1.68 billion), barley ($1 billion), compressed soybean ($950 million) and soybean seeds ($905 million).
