Uzbekistan to rent out land plots for growing agricultural products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

The government of Uzbekistan will allocate land plots to the country's population for growing agricultural products on preferential terms, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

A corresponding decree on additional measures to ensure food security, rational use of available resources and state support for agriculture during the coronavirus pandemic was issued by the president of Uzbekistan on May 1, 2020.

According to the decree, the mayors of districts shall lease land areas primarily to low-income families with knowledge and skills in the field of agriculture for farming on the area of up to one hectare and for a period of up to 10 years. In addition, as a pilot project, business entities are granted the right to lease up to five hectares of land for a period of up to 10 years on the basis of an electronic auction with the condition of pre-payment of all expenses.

"Potatoes, vegetables, melons, legumes and oilseeds will be planted in priority order. Moreover, gardens and vineyards will be built on the allocated lands. Business entities that have sown these types of crops, created jobs, and promptly reimbursed lease expenses during the land use period are granted priority right to extend the term of land use," the message said.

Under the decree, construction of lightweight structures and irrigation facilities is allowed, while the construction of residential houses, buildings and other structures is strictly prohibited.

In addition, each family participating in agricultural cooperatives will receive additional support from the Fund of public works during the period of poultry rearing (40 days), in the amount of 500,000 soum (almost $50).
