Iran discloses volume of purchased wheat

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 3

The volume of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran amounted to 570,000 tons from April 4 to May 2, said Mohammad Taghi Tabatabaee, head of public relations department of Government Trading Corporation of Iran, Trend reports citing the corporation's website.

According to Tabatabaee, the value of purchased wheat is more than 14 trillion rials (about $333 million) and some of these funds were paid, while the rest will be paid to farmers as soon as possible.

Tabatabaee added that so far, 371,000 tons of wheat have been purchased in Khuzestan province, 77,000 tons in Bushehr province, 38,000 tons in Kerman province, 31,000 tons in Fars province and 22,000 tons in Ilam province.

The official said that in addition, more than 73,000 tons of rapeseed were purchased in eight provinces.

The largest amount of purchased rapeseed (50,000 tons) accounted for Khuzestan province, followed by 16,000 tons in Ilam province and 5,400 tons in Fars province.

Iran is expected to harvest 14 million tons of wheat this Iranian year (starting March 20, 2020).

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram of durum wheat in Iran in the current Iranian year. A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by the state company under a guarantee in Iran.
