Trend:

Egg production in Iran continues despite COVID-19, and the prices on eggs haven't changed, head of Tehran's Union of Egg Producers Nasser Nabipour told Trend.

"The price of egg during the Ramadan month usually is not increasing, and the price of chicken did not increase either in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020) due to coronavirus and cancellation of religious ceremonies," he said.

"Fortunately, the volume of egg production is high - some 3,000 tons of eggs are being produced per day, while workers do their job, observing health protocols," he said.

"The egg production process has not changed during the past three months, the average price of chicken per kilo is 80,000 rials (about $1.9), but its more expensive in shops. The Consumers and Producers Protection Organization should monitor the issue and our union is only responsible for egg distribution in the market," Nabipour said.

"The price of an egg per kilo that is produced at chicken farms is 80,000 rials (about$1.90), monitoring shops across the city is not our duty and we distribute eggs with low price of 77,400 rials (about$1.80) per kilo," he added.

"Around 40 businessmen used to export eggs from Iran but considering the economic profit of this product, exporters have called for lift of egg export ban and the Agriculture Ministry has allowed the export later on," he added.

Nabipour also said that the number of egg exporters has increased from 40 to 200.

"Iran exports eggs to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf states including Oman and Qatar, that is 160,000 tons per day," he added.
