Potato clusters will be established in Uzbekistan in accordance with the new decree, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.

A presidential resolution on measures to expand potato production and further development of potato seed production in the country was adopted.

In accordance with the decree, potato clusters will be established in districts specializing in potato growing.

One of the main directions of potato clusters and cooperatives is the production of consumer and seed potatoes based on innovative and resource-saving technologies, as well as the creation of value chains in this area.

The Decree approved the list of districts and regions specializing in production of consumer and seed potatoes.

According to the decision, starting from May 1, 2020, to finance the costs of purchasing seed potatoes, commercial loans for up to 12 months are granted to farms and agricultural enterprises producing potatoes, as well as potato clusters and cooperatives.

Seed potatoes imported from abroad until 1 July 2023 are exempt from customs duties.

In April, it was reported that a large potato growing cluster will appear in Tashkent Region.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan reported that it plans to grow about 2.8 million tons of potatoes in 2020.

In the period from January through March 2020, 130,000 tons of potato products were imported from Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Belarus, including over 60,000 tons in March. Imports will continue until Uzbekistan begins mass cultivation of potatoes, the Uzbek Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.
