CBI: Supreme Leader's remarks prove bank's strategy correct

TEHRAN, Iran, May.9

Trend:

Iranian Central Bank's opposition to unnecessary imports is a proper decision, which are in line with the remarks of the Supreme Leader, the Governor of Central Bank of Iran Abdolnasser Hemmati said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The Supreme Leader's remarks on unnecessary imports and the fight against trafficking indicate that the Central Bank's strategy is correct," he said.

“Currency constraints and the need to strengthen national production are strong enough reasons for banning imports without foreign exchange transfers,” said Hemmati.

"On the other hand, countering smuggling, in addition to strengthening national production, reducing the demand for foreign exchange in the market, will lead to greater control and stability of the foreign exchange market,” the CBI governor said.

According to CBI, the currency of such imports (imports without currency transfer) is provided outside the banking system.

Imports without currency transfers are for goods that are of low priority to the Iranian government, and usually a certain amount of those goods can be purchased through this method.

The method of import without the transfer of currency means the payment should be done without the letter of credit and the goods are remitted or paid for from other sources.
