Farmers to be completely exempted from irrigation fees in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12

The agrarian activities should not be stopped in Georgia for a single day and there should be no uncultivated land left, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated during the presentation of the anti-crisis plan in the field of agriculture, Trend reports referring to Georgian media.

According to Gakharia, all farmers in Georgia will be completely exempted from irrigation fees, and they will have free irrigation water supply during 2020.

"At the same time, I would like to inform you that for every farmer who needs to buy equipment, organize a greenhouse or an irrigation system, the state will make direct financial assistance, and cover 50 percent of the expenses,” said Gakharia.

According to the prime minister, these programs will be launched on May 20.

He said the program includes other assistance, and 200,000 farmers will benefit from it. The total budget for the assistance is 300 million lari ($93.8 million).
