External merchandise trade of Georgia down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13

External Merchandise Trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $3.46 billion from January through April 2020, 11.8 percent lower year-on-year, Trend reports with reference to National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

As reported, the value of export decreased by 11.9 percent and amounted to $1 billion, while the import decreased by 11.8 percent and amounted to $2.46 billion.

The trade deficit equaled $1.46 billion and its share in trade turnover constituted 42.2 percent.

The external merchandise trade of Georgia amounted to $2.77 billion from January through March 2020, 2.7 percent lower to the same period of 2019.

In 1Q2020, the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia accounted to 77.9 percent. The top three partners were Azerbaijan ($121.9 million), China ($99.9 million) and Russia ($91.2 million).
