Turkmenistan strives to improve co-op with CTBTO on nuclear non-proliferation issues

Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) and Turkmenistan plan to improve cooperation on nuclear non-proliferation issues, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The mentioned issues were discussed between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Lassina Zerbo.

During the videoconference, the main spheres of cooperation between Turkmenistan and CTBTO were highlighted. The parties stressed out Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality for launching the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, which was made to ensure the non-proliferation, disarmament and nuclear safety.

Turkmenistan's constructive approach to foreign policy issues, specifically regarding disarmament, was highlighted.

As a member of international treaties and conventions of the UN, Turkmenistan is looking to expand cooperation in the mentioned spheres, both at the regional and global levels.

The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation in ensuring the participation of national experts in seminars and trainings organized by the CTBTO.
