Metallurgical production surges in Azerbaijan

The production volume of raw materials in the Azerbaijani metallurgical industry amounted to 139.7 million manat ($82.2 million) from January through April 2020, which is 2.3 times more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the report of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

The production of finished metal products increased by 4.4 percent, amounting to 83.6 million manat ($49.2 million) while the total gross production amounted to 223.3 million manat ($131.3 million).

In total, 81,300 tons of steel were smelted in Azerbaijan from January through April 2020, showing a decrease of 29.4 percent. Production of fittings dropped by 14.8 percent, amounting to 79,000 tons. Production of steel pipes reached 7,300 tons, increasing by 34.2 percent.

The production of primary alloys of unprocessed aluminium decreased by 16.9 percent - up to 10,800 tons.

Prefabricated building structures made of ferrous metals were produced in the amount of 8.5 million manat ($5 million), increasing by 34.7 percent. The production of other structures made of ferrous metals increased by 2.1 times, reaching over 9,400 tons. The production of flexible wires, cables and non-insulated cables from copper amounted to 2,200 tons, showing an increase by 2.2 times.

Production of raw materials in the Azerbaijani metallurgical industry dropped by 20 percent from January through December 2019 compared to the same period of 2018, amounting to 763.5 million manat ($449.1 million).

Nevertheless, the production of finished metal products increased by 82.4 percent, amounting to 214.6 million manat ($126.2 million). So, an increase by 35.5 percent was recorded throughout the industry, and the total gross production amounted to 901.4 million manat ($530.2 million).
