BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3

By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

Azerbaijani Azexport portal received export orders worth $209.2 million from January through April 2020, Azexport’s Manager Aykhan Gadashov told Trend.

In April 2020, the volume of export orders of the portal amounted to $61.5 million, having increased by 20.8 percent compared to the same period of 2019, said the manager.

From January 2017 through April 2020, Azexport Internet portal carried out export orders to 141 countries of the world, which amounted to $1.7 billion in monetary terms, he said.

Inasmuch as the Azexport portal was fully operational online during the pandemic, there were no problems in its activities, and, as before, the portal continued to operate remotely, noted Gadashov.

“During the special quarantine regime, the greatest demand was for agricultural products, mainly potatoes, tomatoes, chicken eggs, cotton, cottonseed oil, pomegranate juice, and confectionery. In addition, among the orders received by the portal during the quarantine period, great demand was observed for onions, ginger and garlic,” the portal’s manager said.

With the softening of quarantine rules, besides the agricultural products, export orders for metal products, diapers, building materials and other products offered by the portal also increased.

Azexport portal was created by order of the head of state dated September 21, 2016 on creating a single database of goods produced in Azerbaijan. The main products exported during this period are tobacco, chicken and eggs, hazelnuts, cottonseed oil, wine, pomegranate, onions, cosmetics, medical gauze, furniture, paints, confectionery, milk with fruit additives, mineral water and garlic.

The goal of the portal, which is managed by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), is to provide information on products of Azerbaijani origin. It is an effective platform for selling goods in foreign and domestic markets.
