Iran advised to cutback on imports, focus on local knowledge-based goods

TEHRAN, Iran, June 16

Trend:

Iran is still more interested in imports than using what local knowledge-based products can offer, said President of the Tehran University Mahmoud Nili, Trend reports via IRNA.

Nili made the remark on the opening ceremony of the copper wheel production project at the Technology and Special Materials Processing Center of Tehran University.

"A large part of this approach is due to economic policies that must be oriented towards creating value through the transformation of knowledge into wealth,” Nili said.

He added that Iran's focus on imports should be reduced.

“The establishment of institutions, scientific and technology parks, knowledge-based companies - are moves to use local knowledge to produce value," said Nili.

The president of Tehran University said that today Iran can export both technical products and knowledge.

"Many industries can offer products that can be marketed internationally," Nili said. “Unfortunately, the sanctions created obstacles in this area."
