Iran reveals volume of wheat purchased from farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 27

Over 3.9 million tons of wheat worth 90.7 trillion rials (about $2.15 billion) were purchased from farmers in Iran from April 4 to June 26, Director General of the Internal Procurement Department of the State Trade Company of Iran Morteza Saadati Kia said, Trend reports citing the company.

The director general stressed that this is an increase of 7 percent in terms of weight and 57 percent in terms of value compared to the same period of the last Iranian year.

“The payment was made for the wheat purchased from farmers before June 13,” he said.

As of June 13, more than 68 trillion rials (about $1.61 billion) were paid to the farmers.

In Iran, a number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and some other products, are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee.
