Turkmenistan completes wheat harvesting

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 1

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

More than 1.4 million tons of wheat was harvested in Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to "Zolotoy Vek" (Golden Age) newspaper.

The state has allocated 690,000 hectares of land for wheat, the report says.

The farmers planted wheat varieties that have proven themselves in the soil and climate conditions of Turkmenistan, in particular: Sakhrai, Juvan, Bitarap, eloten-1, eloten-3, Turkmenbashi-1, Gyzylshaglavuk-25, Miras, Akbash, jubilee-100, Batko, and Vassa.

More than 2,200 John Deere, CLAAS, Case, and New Holland combine harvesters were used during harvesting, and over 11,000 trucks were delivered to receiving points, elevators, and barns.

Turkmenistan’s Akhal region was the first to complete wheat harvesting. This region handled more than 400,000 tons of wheat to the state. By collecting 265,000 tons of wheat, the Dashoguz region also was one of the first regions to complete wheat harvesting. In addition, a large amount of wheat was collected in the Lebap region– more than 310,000 tons, as well as in the Mary region– more than 345,000 tons, in the Balkan region – over 80,000 tons of wheat.

Just as last year, Turkmenistan is allocating state land for wheat production to enterprises. For wheat production, the Turkmen state provides seeds, mineral fertilizers and means for combating agricultural pests on preferential terms.

Agriculture is one of the most important branches of Turkmenistan's economy. The main types of agricultural crops are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruit crops.
