Georgian Plant the Future program provides financial support to farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 7

Farmers, who are beneficiaries of Georgian state program Plant the Future, will have their first harvest this year, Trend reports referring the Georgian Agriculture and Rural Development Agency.

The agency reports that 16 million lari ($5.2 million) allocated through the program helped create nurseries and gardens on 10,000 hectares of land throughout Georgia.

As the agency noted, one of the farmers who benefited from the program is Anton Jamelashvili; he plans to harvest 30 tons of cherry this year. Jamelashvili planted cherries on eight hectares of land in the village of Pkhvenisi of Gori municipality within the Plant the Future in 2015.

He received 72,000 lari ($23,711) from the state of which 49,000 lari ($16,136) was spent on purchasing saplings and 23,000 lari ($7,574) for the installation of a drip system.

The Plant the Future state program was launched in 2015 in order to boost agriculture and help people open new enterprises, deliver high quality produce to market and increase the export potential of Georgian goods.
