Iranian government seeks to further develop Sistan and Balouchestan province and has started to install rail track on Zahedan–Chabahar railway, said Minister of Road and Urban Development.
"The government plan in the province includes improving infrastructure that includes the commissioning of Zahedan–Chabahar railway and development of Shahid Beheshti Port, which will contribute to economic development of the province" said Mohammad Eslami, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The project also covers modernizing port, railway and air transportation," he said. "Discharge and load of cargo in Chabahar Port is predicted to increase to more than 4 million tons. Currently, around 1,000 trucks are transporting cargo daily from the port."
"The ministry plans to assign one of its subsidiary companies to cooperate with the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters to commission the Chabahar-Zahedan railway as soon as possible," the minster added.
" Chabahar–Zahedan railway is of a special importance as it can transit goods and connect Iran's railway network to Central Asia and Afghanistan," said Eslami.
