Georgia further increases import of dairy products

Georgia continues to increase imports of dairy products, Trend reports with reference to Georgiandairy information and analytical resource.

Imports of milk powder from January through June increased by 3 percent compared to the previous year. However, it is 8 percent below the average for the previous 3 years.

In June, imports of non-fat milk powder halved compared with the average volume in the previous three months.

During 1H2020, the import of powder in the equivalent of raw milk amounted to 43 million liters.

Imports of dairy products are at a record high, the report said.

In the first six months of this year, imports amounted to 85 million liters (equivalent to raw milk), which is 20-21 percent higher than the average for the last 3 years.

Average import value continues to fall in dollars, and in the reporting period, imports also declined in lari.

During the reporting period, exports of cheese and other dairy products declined by about 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2020, milk production in the country increased by 5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 107 million liters.
