The growth of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia was 68.8 percent in 2019 ($694.8 million) compared to 2018, and it increased by 3.8 times (to $518 million) from January through April 2020, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Trend.
The main Russian exports to Turkmenistan is machinery, equipment and vehicles, chemical products, food and agricultural raw materials, metals and products made from them, the ministry said.
"Imports are dominated by textiles, chemical industry products, and food," added the Russian MFA.
In general, various Russian companies operate in the country, which contributes to the growth of trade turnover.
As an example of cooperation has led the Ministry of KAMAZ company. KAMAZ not only supplies its products to the Turkmen market, but has also opened a network of specialized service centers in the regions of Turkmenistan.
"Another Russian flagship business is Tatneft company, which cooperates with Turkmenistan’s Turkmenneft State Concern in the field of drilling oil and gas wells in the fields of Turkmenistan and introducing new technologies used in international oil and gas practice," the ministry added.
Gazprom resumed the purchase of Turkmen natural gas in April 2019, which contributed to the development of trade and economic relations between the countries.
It was also reported that Russian economic operators are involved in the implementation of major infrastructure projects. In particular, Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant supplied 150,000 tons of large-diameter pipes for the construction of the Turkmen section of the Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India (TAPI) cross-border gas pipeline.
