Turkey, Azerbaijan ready to support entrepreneurs during COVID-19

Turkey and Azerbaijan are ready to support entrepreneurs during the COVID-19 pandemic, President of the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) Nail Olpak said, Trend reports.

Olpak made the speech at a joint online business forum of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and the DEIK.

Olpak noted that Turkey and Azerbaijan have great prospects for expanding trade and economic ties between entrepreneurs of the two countries, as well as prospects for carrying out work on supporting entrepreneurship during the pandemic.

Turkey aims to strengthen the existing economic ties with Azerbaijan in all directions, DEIK’s president said.

During the event, AZPROMO’s Acting President Yusif Abdullayev informed about the economic reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan.

“AZPROMO is expanding cooperation with foreign partners, taking systemic measures to minimize the negative consequences of the pandemic for entrepreneurs in the country,” Abdullayev added.

The ambassadors of Azerbaijan to Turkey and Turkey to Azerbaijan, representatives of state structures of both countries and entrepreneurs also took part at the business forum.

As part of the event, panel sessions were organized among businessmen in the food industry and agriculture, the transport and logistics sector, and directions for expanding economic ties were discussed.

The trade turnover between Turkey and Azerbaijan in 2019 increased by $180.6 million compared to 2018, having surpassed $2 billion.

In May 2020, the trade turnover between the two countries dropped by $8.3 million compared to the same month of 2019, making up $184.9 million. Turkey's foreign trade turnover over this month amounted to $23.3 billion.
