Iran, Iraq to discuss reaching new milestone in mutual trade

TEHRAN, Iran, July 21

Trend:

The head of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce Yahya al-Ishaq said that the Iraqi Prime Minister's visit to Iran will have an important impact on the development of relations between the two countries, Trend reports via IRNA.

Al-Ishaq said the talks will mostly focus on economic issues.

“Plans to bring the Iran-Iraq trade turnover to $20 billion, he added.

He went on to say that Iraq's debt to Iran for electricity and energy is another important issue.

"Agreements have already been reached on the return of about $3 billion of Iraq's debt to Iran, which is gradually being carried out,” he said, adding that the system of re-payment of the debts will be negotiated during this visit.

Referring to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the related restrictions imposed on the southern borders of Iran, he says that the visit of high-ranking Iraqi official can accelerate the reopening of the borders.
