By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Dry tea production in Iran has increased by 16 percent since beginning of current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz told Trend.

Jahansaz emphasized that Iran has produced more than 17,800 tons of dry tea since beginning of current Iranian year to date.

The chairman noted that so far, more than 79,300 tons of tea leaves worth 3.31 trillion rials (about $78.8 million) have been purchased in Iran.

He added that 68 percent of the purchased tea leaves were first-grade quality and 32 percent were second-grade quality.

Jahansaz said that 2.73 trillion rials (about $65.1 million) were paid to tea farmers.

“According to climatic conditions, tea leaf production in Iran is expected to reach 130,000 tons. And thus, Iran will produce 30,000 tons of dry tea,” he said.

The official said that it is forecasted that 130,000-135,000 tons of tea leaves will be purchased from farmers this year.

The price of first-grade tea leaves is 46,000 rials (about $1.09), and the cost of second-grade tea leaves is 33,000 rials (about 78 cents) this year.

In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat and tea are purchased from farmers by a state-owned company under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
