Iran talks about plan to provide lands with modern irrigation systems

A plan is being implemented to equip 160,000 hectares of land in Iran with modern irrigation systems in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Executor of the modern irrigation systems project of Ministry Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Abbas Zare said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Zare, so far, 29,000 hectares of land has been equipped with modern irrigation systems, and some 131,000 hectares more are being equipped.

Zare added that 100 million euros have been allocated for the supply of modern irrigation systems in agricultural areas this year.

"In general, more than 2.4 million hectares of agricultural land in Iran has been equipped with modern irrigation systems," he said.

The official stressed that with the implementation of the plan to equip agricultural areas with modern irrigation systems in Iran, the turnover of water consumption in agricultural areas has increased by an average of 40 percent and production potential by at least 30 percent.

Iran plans to harvest 128 million tons of agricultural products during the current Iranian year of Iran (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021). This figure was 123 million tons in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).
