Details of Iran's agricultural imports revealed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 28

Iran exported 6.89 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $2.61 billion during the first three months of the current year (March 20-June 20, 2020), Trend reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

According to the report, the imports of agricultural and food products accounted for 77.3 percent of Iran's total non-oil exports in terms of volume and 34.3 percent in terms of value.

The value of imports decreased by about 32 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"Iran imported $587 million worth of corn in three months. This product accounted for 22.5 percent of agricultural imports," the report said.

During this period, Iran imported $537 million worth of wheat. The import of this product accounted for 20.6 percent of agricultural imports.

According to the report compressed soybeans worth $148 million, rice worth $208 million and vegetable oil worth $138 million were imported during 3 months. These products accounted for 5.7 percent, 8 percent and 5.3 percent of agricultural imports, respectively.

"The soybean seeds worth $169 million, sugar and powdered sugar worth $152 million and barley worth $130 million were imported. These products accounted for 6.5 percent, 5.8 percent and 5 percent of agricultural imports, respectively, the report noted.

Iran imports $98.9 million worth of fruit, $68.9 million worth of tea and $59.5 million worth of red meat in three months. These products accounted for 3.8 percent, 2.6 percent and 2.3 percent of agricultural imports, respectively.

The agricultural products import was an average of $379 per ton during 3 months of current Iranian year. This is 56 percent less than the average price ($854) per ton of non-oil imported products.
