Uzbekistan increases export of red beans to Afghanistan despite pandemic

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 4

Over 20,000 tons of red beans were exported from Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan in the first half of 2020, Trend reported citing UzDaily News Agency.

In total, Uzbekistan exported red beans in the amount of $29.4 million. The main buyers are Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Out of this volume, since the beginning of the pandemic, that is, from March 2020 to date, 14,100 tons of red beans have been exported to Afghanistan and Pakistan for a total of $24.2 million.

In addition, $9.4 million worth of machines and $2.2 million worth of peas were exported from Surkhandarya region to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the first half of 2020.

At present, the customs posts of the region also carry out uninterrupted export of legumes.

In 1H2020, Uzbekistan exported $427.2 million worth of fruits and vegetables. Compared to the same period of 2019, the Uzbekistan’s export of vegetables decreased by 34 percent.

During mentioned period, Uzbekistan shipped 39,800 tons of vegetables worth $24.2 million to Afghanistan.
