Kazakhstan’s planned volume of coal and lignite extraction (excluding coal concentrate) in 2020 is 107.2 million tons, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development told Trend.

The ministry representative noted that coal industry is one of the most important resource industries in the country.

“Kazakhstan is one of the ten leading countries in terms of coal reserves. Coal mining companies produced 53 million tons of coal in 1H2020, which is 2.1 percent more than during the same period last year,” the ministry official said.

The representative noted that the main task of Kazakhstan’s coal industry is to provide the economy with the required volume of fuel.

“More precisely, this means generation of electricity, supplies to the coke production, industrial enterprises, as well as full satisfaction of municipal and household sector and population needs,” the ministry official said.

The ministry representative added that despite introduction of an emergency state in Kazakhstan, as well as other restrictive measures to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, a positive trend was observed in the country’s coal industry.
